WTRS UWB Emerging Technology Report 2008 As the wireless connectivity protocols mature and gain market acceptance, the differentiation between Bluetooth, WiFi, and UWB begin to blur within the wireless industry. Many of the same players involved in promoting and developing UWB-based wireless connectivity options are deeply embedded in the furtherance of the IEEE 802.11 family of specifications that drive Wi-Fi as a competitive alternative in the wireless connectivity arena. While each protocol and technology under development today will eventually find its own unique application and niche within the market, the component OEMs are maintaining their stake in the various initiatives as a means to ensure a place in the wireless connectivity market. The question looming over the emergence of UWB products today is related to the mechanism by which significant adoption will be stimulated. The key to this is strong application developer activity.
The newly issued WTRS UWB Emerging Technology Report analyzes and forecasts the market for Ultra Wideband (UWB) technologies in connectivity applications. Analysis includes an assessment of market by UWB protocol (e.g. DS-UWB from GiT, CWave UWB from Pulse~Link, and MB-OFDM UWB from the WiMedia Alliance), the Certified Wireless USB I/F, WiMedia Alliance, high speed Bluetooth, and CWave UWB. The report also includes global & regional market trends & forecasts, regulatory issues, standards development, economic effects, and strategic developments. Finally, a 5-year forecast detailing sales volume, unit shipments, and average selling price by vertical technology segment provides data that can be used to build business or product plans.

With the ongoing threat of wide area wireless technologies, like WiMAX, soon to be deployed, European operators are digging deep to upgrade quickly to HSDPA in order to protect their market position.
Researched and designed in association with WCIS, the World Cellular Information Service from Informa Telecoms & Media, this powerful visual tool provides data ranging from awarded equipment vendor contracts to subscriber growth figures.
For analysts, researchers and marketing professionals, the data is available electronically (MS Excel), ready to port into models, pitches and presentations.
Operator Specific Data:
- Network technology used (GSM, CDMA, UMTS etc.)
- Subscriber numbers and growth (2G & 3G)
- Operator ownership
- Vendor contracts awarded (2.75G, 3G, 3.5G & IMS)
- Wireless broadband vendor contracts (WiMAX, Flash-OFDM & UMTS-TDD)
- HSDPA network status
- 3G license status
Market Data:
- Subscribers per country
- Subscriber penetration per country
- Equipment vendor market share (2.75G, 3G & 3.5G)
